Foster Care
Changing homes is hard enough without also changing schools. Melba School District works with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare so that students in foster care can stay in a stable school setting and keep making progress.
What This Means for Students
- When a student enters foster care or changes placements, they can stay in their school of origin unless it is decided that changing schools is in their best interest.
- If a change of schools is in the student's best interest, they are enrolled in their new school right away, even if records are not yet available.
- The district and child welfare agency work together on transportation so students can stay in their school of origin.
- School records move quickly to the new school when a student does change schools.
